A simple example of fencing a square 40 acre pasture:

1320' x 4 sides = 5280' for the perimeter you might want 4 wires = 5280' x $0.70 = $3,696.00 Now add your corners it is a square so there are 4 corners if you want 8 H-Braces onto your corners 8 x 80.00 = $640.00

Now to figure out the gates say you want two 12' gates with 3 rope gates. You would take 2 H-Braces 2 x $80.00 = $160.00. 

Add to 2 gates x 3 handles per gate = 6 gate handles x $3.75 = $22.50. Then take 12' x 6 rope x $0.15 = $10.80 then add 6 - 3 Handle Hook ups x $1.40 = $8.40

Add them together $3,696.00 + $640.00 + $160.00 + $41.70 = $4,537.70 for materials & corners installed. This comes to $0.859 a ft.

You can add, subtract, multiply and divide anything you want to make it how you want it.

To make it function for you.

  • 1 foot of four wire high tensile is about $0.70 cents material only. (this includes wire, wood line posts, composite posts, insulators and tighteners) this is with wood line posts spaced at 100 ft. With Labor and Material = $1.40 per foot.
  • 1 foot of three wire high tensile is about $0.67 cents material only.  With Labor and Materials = $1.37 per foot.
  • 1 foot of two wire high tensile is about $0.64 cents material only. With Labor and Materials = $1.34 per foot.
  • 1 foot of one wire high tensile is about $0.61 cents material only. With Labor and Materials = $1.31 per foot.

Braces

  • 1 H-Brace is about $80.00 installed & material.
  • 1 Floating Brace is about $100.00 installed & material.

  • Rope for gates = $0.15 cents a foot.
  • 1 Gate Handle = $3.76 each.
  • 1 foot in ground insulated wire = $0.15

Labor

Fence Post Pounding Rates:

  • Post Pounding with customer help is $68.00 an hour. Average 10-20 posts installed an hour.
  • Transport of Tractor and Pounder is $1.40 a mile round trip. **Limit of 30 posts**
  • With hired help is $90.50 per hour. Transportation is $1.50/mile round trip.
  • ​Surcharge for telephone poles, railroad ties and posts over 10' is $136.00/hour.
  • Fence post pounding uses 2 people. Average 10-20 posts depending on ground conditions
  • Labor - Installation of fence removal of old fence is $20.00 an hour per person.
  • Truck Transportation is $0.90 a mile both ways.
  • Tractor is $40.00 an hour for dirt work and clearing.

​1 - 40 Acre pasture = $7,392 Total​. $3,696 of it is Labor. That is the price for a straight line run around a square 40 Acres. 5 people - $20.00 per person want to do a 40 flat square in a day - 8 hours

This is how Paul explained to me fence and I want to share it with you. The easiest way to estimate the price of the fence is to start with the cost of 1,320 ft. of fence. A square 40 acre pasture this 1,320 is the feet of one side. You are going to make a 4 strand high tensile fence with a wood post spaced at every 100 ft. and a PasturePro self-insulated wood composite post spaced at every 33ft is about $0.70 cents a foot for material. The cost of just one strand of wire is ususally $0.027 a foot.
